About Anna
Anna graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor's degree in digital journalism with a minor in political science from Jacksonville State University in Jacksonville, Alabama, in December 2024. Anna is currently employed at the Alabama Reflector, part of States Newsroom.
Anna interned at Alabama Daily News for two summers and gained experience in political journalism at the Alabama State House. She had the opportunity to write both breaking and enterprise news for the online outlet. She also established relationships with lawmakers, lobbyists and journalists. Being the only woman in a press room was an experience that taught her that she deserved to be there just as much as her male counterparts. She learned how to apply the lessons of persistence she learned at JSU through interviews with hard-to-reach lawmakers and state agencies. She learned how to connect with lawmakers to make them feel comfortable enough to answer questions in full.
In Anna's time at JSU, she revived its chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists and served as president for two years. She also worked at JSU's student-run news outlet, The Chanticleer, as news editor for two years. From work done as news editor, Anna had the opportunity to speak on a panel of her peers at the Alabama Press Association's winter conference about student journalism. Through her leadership, Anna was a finalist for two and won one Pinnacle Award from the College Media Association, the John C. Turner, Digital Journalism Academic Excellence and Student Leadership awards.
Anna spends a lot of time perfecting her craft; however, she also believes in setting boundaries and prioritizing her mental health. In college, she was a member of the Marching Southerners and various collegiate choirs. Those organizations allowed Anna to perform at Carnegie Hall and in Normandy for the 80th anniversary of D-Day. In her limited free time, she enjoys spending time with friends and family, crocheting and exercising. These activities allowed Anna to be the best journalist she can.
